Day 1: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
This morning you will fly from Kilimanjaro International airport to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania where you will be accommodated at Lamai Serengeti. Tucked amongst the rocks of Kogakuria Kopje with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, just a few miles from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River during the migration season which normally occurs between mid to June and end of October.
Each of the 12 rooms has been designed to fit into the complex geometry of the kopje and to make the most of this sensational location, with the views, natural space and light.
Flight time Kilimanjaro to Serengeti - Approx 1 Hour 10 Mins
Overnight Lamai Serengeti (BLD) or similar
Day 2: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Enjoy the activities offered by the camp including guided game drives and guided walks in this wilderness area frequented by the spectacular Wildebeest migration. This area of lush, rolling grassland and tree-lined watercourses is the hub around which the Serengeti migration circulates.
During the dry season, the herds mass on both banks of the Mara River, frequently crossing - and braving the crocs - in response to local weather patterns that only they seem to understand. But even a brief visit to Lamai Serengeti at any time of year will demonstrate that it's not all about the migration.
Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out, forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, this area remains lush and green. There's a collective sigh of relief from the resident game when the one and a half million migrating wildebeest - and the madness that attends them - leave town for a few months. And the resident game at Lamai Serengeti is spectacular. Plains game in the form of zebra, topi, gazelles, impala, buffalo and giraffe all frequent the area throughout the year. Lion are rarely far away and leopard, ever present, but always elusive, stalk the rocky kopjes and river lines.
With a location like this, one of the best way to take in the Serengeti is literally from the expansive verandah of your room, tucked away in amongst the red rocks of the kopje. The rooms are designed to maximise the panoramic views, but also to give a window onto life on the kopje. At Lamai, guests can be as busy as they like with game drives and walks, or as lazy as they like enjoying the Serengeti from the room or the swimming pool.
Overnight Lamai Serengeti (BLD) or Similar
Day 3: Mahale Mountains, Lake Tanganyika
Fly south along Lake Tanganyika into the Mahale Mountains. Kungwe Beach Lodge sits on a stretch of secluded golden beach, deep in the heart of the African interior. With a dramatic mountain range rising up from behind and crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika in front of the lodge, this romantic getaway is the perfect blend of comfort and luxury.
Ten light spacious safari rooms, furnished in imitation of the surrounding lakeside Villages, have been strategically placed at the edge of the cooling forest canopy of the Mahale Mountains National park. All rooms are under thatch on raised platforms and have a private deck providing views of Lake Tanganyika and the beach. The main deck is shaped like a dhow boat and contains the central dining and lounge facilities. All guest rooms are within easy walking distance along the beach to the main lounge and dining areas.
Your days can start there, enjoying breakfast whilst waiting to hear news of the chimps and deciding what to do with your day. Evenings end with sundowners on the rocks of the headland, where drinks are served around the lamp-lit bar whilst the mountains, rising behind camp, disappear into the darkness.
Flight time Serengeti to Tabora - Approx 1 Hour 38 Mins
Flight time Tabora to Mahale - Approx 1 Hour 18 Mins
Overnight Kungwe Beach Lodge (BLD)
Day 4: Mahale Mountains, Lake Tanganyika
Today’s the day to enjoy an exhilarating Chimpanzee Trek in the Mahale Mountains.
After tracking them, for perhaps an hour or two, maybe more, only aware of the sounds they are making ahead, suddenly they are everywhere. Sit quietly on the forest floor and take a deep breath, this is what it's all about.
For the next hour it's as if you scarcely breathe, so engrossed and privileged are you to be watching them go about their daily life. You become aware of the subtleties of different relationships, through gesture, sound and expression.
Overnight Kungwe Beach Lodge (BLD)
Day 5: Likoma Island, Lake Malawi
Today you will fly South to Likoma Island set in the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi.
Likoma Island is found towards the north eastern part of Lake Malawi, within the territorial waters of Mozambique but part of Malawi and linked to the rest of the country by a steamer service. The island is quite hilly in places, mostly dry and sandy since it lies in the rain shadow of the Mozambique shore. Baobabs are a common feature of the landscape but big trees are generally scarce. The population is over five thousand people, scattered in little villages throughout the island.
Kaya Mawa is set on a rocky promontory on the southern tip of the Island. The name means 'maybe tomorrow' and is the perfect phrase for this wonderful retreat. It has been sensitively refurbished and a new central lounge and dining area has been built with lighter colours and contemporary styling. It is a perfect location for beach dinners or a relaxing lunch, with comfortable sofas with huge cushions, so you can listen to the water lap the shore whilst having a G&T.
There are 11 rooms in total, each individually designed and built in sympathy with the rocks on the island and often built around the boulders themselves. There are four standard, three premium rooms and four houses tucked away on the beach.
Flight time Mahale to Mbeya - Approx 1 Hour 48 Mins
Flight time Mbeya to Mzuzu - Approx 1 Hour 5 Mins
Flight time Mzuzu to Likoma Island - Approx 23 Mins

On offer is an unmatched variety of activities with day and night drives, boats cruises, walking safaris or canoeing, which offer you the opportunity to view wildlife from a more natural perspective. The Lower Zambezi is also widely known as one of the best places to catch (and release) a Tiger Fish or two.
Built on the foundations of the renowned site of Ana Tree Lodge, Anabezi Camp is made up of twelve spacious, secluded tents, raised on timber platforms to give you a magnificent view of the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Where the Zambezi River and Mushika Flood Plain meet, is also the meeting spot for hundreds of animal species. Come morning or night, you’ll be greeted with an array of game from the comfort of your tent.
Flight time Likoma Island to Mzuzu - Approx 23 Mins
Flight time Mzuzu to Mfuwe - Approx 1 Hour 10 Mins
Flight time Mfuwe to Jeki Airstrip - Approx 1 Hour 27 Mins

Day 7: Southern Zambia– Lower Zambezi
Enjoy the activities as offered by the camp.
A policy of non-intrusive enjoyment of wildlife and low environmental impact has helped to make the Lower Zambezi valley one of southern Africa’s premier game viewing destinations. Add to this the amazing fauna and flora found in and on the banks of Africa’s fourth largest river, and you begin to understand why this amazing wilderness is so special.
Game viewing can be done from a vehicle in the Lower Zambezi National Park or, if you prefer, from a boat on the Zambezi. Canoeing, walking and, of course, fishing, are also offered. And for those interested in the rich cultural heritage of the area, community visits can be arranged.
Overnight Anabezi Luxury Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 8: Chobe River, Botswana
This morning you will fly to Livingstone and on to Kasane in Botswana from where you transfer to the Chobe Princess House Boat. At the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers lies Impalila Island, which is also the meeting place of four African countries, namely: Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This phenomenon is the only one of its kind in the world and it is within this unique geographic area that the Chobe Princess operates.
The Chobe Princess provides the ultimate luxury cruising safari on the Chobe River. Small and intimate, this houseboat provides guests with the opportunity to stay overnight within the Chobe National Park at prime docking sites along the river. There is something incredibly relaxing about cruising on the Chobe River, along the banks of the Chobe National Park, watching the outstanding wildlife and birdlife from the houseboat.
The accommodation deck comprises five bedrooms. Each spacious double guest bedroom can be configured either as twin or double and has en-suite bathroom facilities and sliding windows opening onto the water, spanned by a transparent mosquito screen.
Flight time Jeki Airstrip to Livingstone - Approx 1 Hour 35 Mins
Flight time Livingstone to Kasane - Approx 15 Mins
Overnight Chobe Princess Houseboat (BLD)
Day 9: Chobe River, Botswana
Game viewing by boat into the Chobe National Park is a remarkable experience - where huge herds of elephants come down to drink together with an extensive array of other game such as buffalo, giraffe, leopard, lion, kudu, waterbuck, puku, lechwe, impala, baboons and the endemic Chobe bush buck. The evening boat trip provides the guest with the unforgettable experience of witnessing a true African sunset, while being surrounded by herds of elephant and sipping on a cold sundowner.
The excellent guides are internationally known for their success in landing Tiger fish, especially when fly-fishing. For the novice fisherman, landing a Tiger is an accomplishment to aspire to and will undoubtedly provide memorable stories for years to come. The houseboat has fishing access to over 30kms of the Chobe River, over 120kms of the Zambezi River and many kilometers of waterways in the Kasai and Indibe wetlands. Each of these areas offers a different fishing experience. Guests have access to a series of good quality boats all with large motors, including a jet boat for the rapids and rocky areas.
Bird watching is a year round pleasure with over 400 recorded species and a combination of water birds and woodland birds to be seen. It is an excellent place to see all the summer migrants from September through to March. There is a wide variety of habitats covered by the vessels and all guides are competent birders.
Mokoros (dugout canoes) can drift into the small islands which exist in the Chobe River and form part of the rapid system. The experienced ‘polers’ are also knowledgeable with all the various bird species to be found during the trip. This activity is influenced by river conditions.
Walks can be arranged on Impalila Island. These are very interesting as there is a varied ecology and the villages offer an insight into traditional African life. From the top of an ancient Baobab tree on Impalila Island one can view the meeting place of the four countries – Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana.
